Abstract
Meningoencephalitis, as complicated with mumps has been often reported in literatures.
A 7-year-old boy wad, first admitted with meningeal signs. We suspected this case should be either aseptic memingitis or tuberculous meningitis at first. On the next day of admission, however -the right side of the submaxillary gland became -to swell and subsided :in 8 days. After 10 days
E hospitalization, he was discharged and 5 days thereafter his b-other carn to the Out-Patient Department with typical sign of mumps, characterized by marked swelling of both parotid glands. Therefore, we were sure that the signs of encephalitis of the former : associated with mumps.
As a matter of fact, it is known that sequelae after mumps meningoencephalitis are markedly less than those of other encephalitis. However, Appelbaum reported that administration of ACTH had played a. great role in effect to reduce sequelae of measles encephalitis. We also experienced a case of mumps meuingoencophalitis w- E hich, by means of cortisone, was cured completely without leaving any sequelae.
